I haven't done a proper Amy update in a long time. Sal suggested I should do one to keep track of her development. :)
Amy is a happy little girl. We are transitioning from toddler stage, to preschool stage. She loves to learn, and wants to know everything. Lately, if I have been speaking to another adult around her, she asks me "what are you saying mummy?". She always wants to know what is going on.
She loves playing with her letter puzzles. She spends a lot of time arranging the letters and spelling out some words (mainly Amy and Jack). She likes to read a book in bed before she goes to sleep, and tells me she is reading all the letters. She spells out words she sees and asks what it says.
One of her favourite activities at the moment is pretend cooking. She has bowls, spoons, a fry pan and other utensils. I give her flour and water and she cooks 'pancakes' or 'cupcakes' for me. This keeps her busy for ages! She will be a good chef one day.
Her speech continues to develop well, learning new words and phrases all the time. Sometimes she mixes up the order of words when asking a question. Once I have corrected her, she doesn't forget. Some words she says wrong, like 'percuter' instead of 'computer'. But I think it's cute ;).
She dresses and undresses well, with some support. She has trouble with tight fitting tops but can do most other items of clothing with a little help.
She is very interested in toilet training. We are still taking a relaxed approach as we wait for warmer weather, to make it a bit easier. I expect she will learn it quite quickly.
Her favourite colour is now yellow. Yellow is the new blue. Thanks to Emma wiggle, who wears yellow! Amy loves Emma. She tells me she talks to Emma in her bedroom and Emma gives her lots of cuddles.
Amy has quite an amazing imagination now. She has conversations with imaginary Wiggles in her bedroom when she is meant to be napping. She likes to put imaginary things in my hands and then take them away again. (I hope I play along well, half the time I'm not sure what she's put in my hand).
Amy still enjoys sitting in the pram, but also likes to walk more and more lately. We still get plenty of use out of the double pram, as she gets tired of walking after a while.
Her favourite place to go is the park. Whenever I ask her what she would like to do, she says "go to the park". She still loves the slide most of all.
We moved the swing we have at home. We made the chains longer, and it now has more swinging room. Jack and Amy both love it. Amy likes to push purple puppy on the swing as high and fast as she can.
Amy sleeps well in her cot. We have a toddler bed in the garage, waiting for her. We will probably move her into the toddler bed later this year or early next year. We have held onto the cot, as it keeps her in her bed during her nap. We wonder if she will nap if she can get out of bed all the time.
Michael and I have been experiencing a preview to what a 'threenager' is like. There has been some talking back, "go away" etc, from Amy. We take reassurance that this is all perfectly natural and normal development, and try to calmly manage her behaviour. Although this process can be exhausting and frustrating at times, we understand that she needs our help and guidance to learn the right way to behave.
Amy is a funny girl. She loves to move her whole body, all at once. She has endless energy and enthusiasm for everything, every day. She loves to dance to her favourite songs, and has been perfecting some of her dance moves recently. Climbing is one of her favourite activities at day care, and she is always proud of herself when she achieves a physical obstacle.
Amy is a wonderful big sister to Jack. The amount of love is amazing. I think Jack would describe it as 'intense', as he is often smothered with kisses and tickles. Amy is learning how to be gentle with Jack, and is doing very well lately. In the last few days, she has walked by Jack and said "hey cutie!". Definitely something I have said many times in the past. Little parrot.
Amy continues to love day care, and her teacher Geeta. She gets excited when I tell her it's a day-care day, and tells me how she will show/tell Geeta something. On Monday (yesterday), Amy was there for an additional day. She was excited to tell Geeta about her holiday on the Gold Coast. Unfortunately Amy was sick, and I went to collect her a few hours later. She is better now.
I like to teach her things. When she was sick, she vomited a few times. I was telling her that her body is very clever, and that the sickness in her tummy came out, so she feels better.
I've also been teaching her about being calm, and how to calm herself if she feels upset. We take deep breaths together to help relax our bodies.
We love our beautiful girl. She is so full of energy, happiness and life. She makes every day brighter and every moment special. Seeing the world through a child's eyes is such a privilege.
