Day care half yearly report

This was written by Amy's wonderful teacher,  Geeta. We are very proud of Amy's achievements at day care this year,  and know that Geeta plays a very important role in Amy's development.  Geeta makes Amy feel safe and loved while she is at school.

Mid Year Grow Story Amy Cronin

What a pleasure it has been to spent the first half of this year with Amy. It has been a privilege to be involved in her learning and development. I have loved getting to know her personality better. Amy has developed in so many areas over the course of this year, I will highlight just a few of these. Amy’s social skills have come such a long way this year! Amy likes to be involved in everything that is happening and engages non-stop in shared play. As I have observed Amy I have noticed she enjoys playing alongside other children without much interaction with each other in similar activities however I have now noticed much more of an interest in group play rather then parallel play. Amy has developed some very good friendships recently with Sophie, Jordin and Aashi. On one occasion, I observed Amy as she asked Sophie to join her in the sanpit. Together the approached the sandpit and began to take their shoes off. Amy noticed that as Sophie was trying to take her shoes off, one lace got stuck. Amy then called me and said, " Geeta she needs help in her shoes". Amy and Sophie had built many sand castle with each other and then they moved onto dancing.. As Amy was singing nursery rhymes for Sophie and Sofia and they were jumping. Amy plays with other children and engages in simple imaginary play which places her in the 2 to 3 years category in social development of the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) Developmental Milestones. Amy has also developed her emotional skills throughout the year. On Amy's arrivals she takes time to engage in activities with her friends. She likes to spend some time in solitude on her arrival. However within few minutes she comes to me for a big cuddle and then identifies an interest and will engage in it. Amy is beginning to show care and empathy towards her friends as she identifies when they are hurt or upset and will let her Educators know. Amy has a sensitive side that we occasionally see and can still get upset easily however she is able to settle herself quite quickly with a hug from her Educators and explain what is wrong. Amy always talks about that she is a big girl now and Jack her brother is a baby and seems to show a sense of pride of the role she plays as a big sister. Amy shows her Independence by filling her water bottle, putting her shoes and socks all by her self. She demonstrates to be very capable and independent as she fulfills these task. Amy recognizes and communicates her bodily needs such as thirst, hunger and comfort and will often take action to fulfill these needs. Amy can self-serve at meal times using the tongs and serving spoons as well as competently and easily feed herself. Whilst preparing for meal times and washing her hands, Amy demonstrates that she can independently do all the steps involved in the process without reminders. Another area that Amy has excelled in this year is her language skills. Amy has a vast vocabulary and uses many words when communicating. On one occasion, our speech therapist was blown away by her ability to hold a conversation and comment on what they were looking it. Amy pronounces words with clarity and preciseness. Amy is very inquisitive and asks many questions. According to the EYLF milestones, Amy is displaying skills above her expected age and these skills places her in the 3 to 5 years category in language development. I can’t wait to see what else Amy can master over the next 6 months!
