Busy 2 year old!

Amy is always on the go! Its been a bit of a challenge to meet her energy now that baby number 2’s arrival is only days away.

But she has been very happy playing at home, and I’ve been taking her to parks and indoor play centres to keep her busy.

 

She has taken quite an interest in shapes lately. Especially hexagon for some strange reason!!

She likes it when I draw shapes for her, and often requests a number 6 inside or next to the hexagon.

She is also learning pentagon and octagon.

 

She enjoys painting on her easel, then washing the paintbrushes in a bucket of soapy water. This seems to provide a good hours worth of entertainment!!

Her favourite colours to paint with are brown, blue and white.

She still definitely has a preference for blue things!!

 

 

They did face-painting at school the other day, and when I picked up Amy she told me she was a cat.

They repeated the experience the following week at school and Amy requested to be a cat again. She enjoyed looking at herself in the mirror.

She loves to help prepare her own toast.

 

 

Our new and improved living area. But I can assure you it doesn’t look like this anymore, as it has been taken over by toys!!

The rug was the last addition, and its a nice comfy space for Amy to play.

Although lately she likes to sit or jump on the lounges. I often hear her saying “sit on bottom Amy” to herself.

 

 

And lastly, baby number 2 is almost ready to make his/her appearance!

We are playing the waiting game at the moment, hoping it’ll be soon as we are so excited to meet this special little person.

Happy Birthday Amy!!

We are so excited (and almost cant believe it) that our baby is 2 years old.

To celebrate we had a lovely family morning tea and lunch at our house.

Amy didn’t quite understand what all the fuss was about, but enjoyed receiving some lovely presents and seeing all the special people in her life.

 

 

 

Amy was very happy when we sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to her.

To make her laugh for some photos, we said her favourite word at the moment… ‘hexagon’.

 

 

 

Nana and Pa gave Amy a lovely easel, which we already have had a lot of use out of!

 

Amy also received some clothes from Nanna Puppies (yes that name has definitely stuck, sorry Mum), some Duplo from Sal, Tracie, Ben and Ethan,

some hair bands and books from Great Nana, and some ‘shopping’ accessories from Michael and I.

 

Thank you to everyone who helped make Amy’s birthday a special day. She has been talking about the “party” ever since, and even told me where everyone sat at the table for lunch!

Amy at daycare

Amy loves daycare. She goes on Mondays and Wednesdays, and lately Fridays too.

When I pick her up from ‘school’, I ask her questions about her day and what she did.

She usually says “painting, drawing, playdoh”, or “go outside”.

She talks about her friends at school as well as the carers.

Amy will be moving from the nursery (0-2 years) to the toddler room (2-3 years) at the beginning of next year.

We are very proud of her confidence at school – she is learning lots and having fun.

October

October is here, which means next month Amy will meet her new brother or sister!!

We talk to her about the new baby coming soon, and have set up the nursery now.

She still thinks there is a baby in her tummy too, and seems to think this rocker is meant for her!!

 

 

She has taken a great interest in a baby at day care, so I have been using this as a talking point to get her used to the idea of having a baby at home.

Its hard to tell how much she does understand, but she says she wants a baby brother.

We have left the gender a surprise, even to ourselves, so we will all know soon.

 

 

 

 

 

Amy has so happy playing a peek-a-boo game with me at the park.

 

She has definitely become a toddler now. No more baby Amy! Although she does like to play ‘baby’ sometimes, and puts her dolls bottle or dummy in her mouth.

With her birthday only a few weeks away, we definitely consider her a 2 year old!!

She is mainly a calm and happy girl,  and its only if she is very tired that there might be a little tantrum.

She likes to make decisions now, so we give her choices on things like what she can wear, or taking turns with Mummy and Daddy.

So far these ideas seem to work fairly well. Sometimes it takes a bit of negotiating but we get there!!

 

We are fortunate she is such a great communicator. I think this really helps as we can explain things to her, and she can answer our questions.

She has recently learnt her abc’s and likes to sing the song every day. She also includes the ending “Now I know my abc’s, next time wont you sing with me”.

Its very cute, and she has also started singing other songs like ‘Rain Rain Go Away’, ‘Row Row Row You’re Boat’ and ‘If You’re Happy And You Know It’.

Amy can now count to 20 and identify these numbers. She also counts back from 10-0 and often says “Hooray” at the end .

Numbers and letters are a great interest to her, and we read lots of books every day, which often revolve around counting objects and saying letters.

 

Amy still has a day sleep but some days she just lies in her cot and chats away to herself, or Ba. The days she doesn’t sleep, she is extremely tired by dinner time, so early to bed it is!! (For everyone!!).

I am finding the days more and more tiring as my belly is getting bigger. Lifting a toddler is hard work with a big belly, and my body feels the strain. Fortunately Michael is home most nights now, which takes the pressure off. I am also on maternity leave now, so I can rest a bit more!!

We cant wait to meet Amy’s new brother or sister!!

September

We have been so busy this month! We decided to do some renovations to the house to make room for the new baby.

Amy now has a new room which was created by adding a wall into our living room.

Amy loves her new room and settled in very well.

We made a big fuss about it, and decorated it with new things we knew she would love.

We bought some new furniture and a rug.

In addition to the new wall, we also had the whole house painted. It was a big job and we are so pleased with how everything looks.

 

 

 

Amy has taken quite an interest in the kitchen. She often speaks about ‘making cakes’ which seems to be something they have been talking about at day care.

I found this lovely apron my friend Kay had given to Amy last Christmas.

She was so excited to make cupcakes in the kitchen. A perfect activity for a rainy day!

 

 

 

 

 

 

The best part…

 

 

We actually made these for Sal’s birthday, and have since made some more batches.

Amy loves looking at the photos of herself cooking. I printed them out and made a book for her, now known as the ‘cupcake book’.
